Senator Helms spent a lifetime defending the free enterprise system and fighting for freedom for all of those oppressed or threatened by communist governments. From his days hosting one of the country’s first television news editorials to his time as a U.S. Senator, Jesse Helms was unapologetic in his quest for the preservation of liberty.

HANDS OF FRIENDSHIP
In a true bipartisan effort, Helms worked closely with Senator Joe Biden, UN Ambassador Richard Holbrooke, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and President Clinton to introduce legislation addressing UN. funding and reforming the relationship between the United States and the United Nations. As a result, the Helms-Biden Act passed with an overwhelming majority in the Senate, and President Clinton signed the bill into law in 1999.
